The library Catalogue has two boxes at the top of the screen on is next to the word serch. If you look at the drop down menu you will see the following words...
Types of searches
Keywords
This is the default option.
Enter an author's surname and/or part of the title of a publication
e.g. Short Bryson will find Bill Bryson's A short history of nearly everything.
Enter 'keywords' to describe your topic
e.g. marine science will find all items with the words marine AND science in the catalogue record.
Add inverted commas to search for a phrase
e.g. "marine science" will find all the items with the phrase marine science in the catalogue record.
Title begins with...
Enter the first few words of a title, leaving out the initial article
e.g. For The literary labyrinth use literary labyrinth.
While you can locate journal titles in the catalogue, you cannot use the catalogue to find journal articles. See more about this on the journals page.
Title Keywords
Enter one or more words occurring in the title
Note that you cannot locate the title of journal articles using this method. See more about this on the journals page.
Author begins with...
Enter author surname followed by a comma and first name or initial if known.
Subject
Items are categorised by one or more subject headings.
These subject headings can be used to find other items on similar topics.
Series begins with...
Enter the first few words in the series name.
For fiction enter the author's surname.
Call number
The call number is assigned according to the Dewey Decimal System.
It can be used to locate items in the online catalogue and on the Library shelves.
Items on the same subject will have the same call number
Check for relevant call numbers in the subject guides. (1)
